Many people work from home when they have been unable to open a studio and pass the required health and safety standards. If you choose to be tattooed by someone at home then ask for a health and safety certificate. If one is produced then check it is valid for that address. It is also worth calling the issuing council to check the validity and if it is up to date.

To become a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo artist takes only one week and costs about £5000 to £6000, you can go on a course that will issue you with a professional looking certificate. Often these courses guarantee a 100% pass rate as opposed to only passing those who are suitably qualified and good enough to tattoo peoples faces. Therefore the certificate simply shows that you have been on a course, not that you are proficient at cosmetic tattooing. It is shocking to us that after just one week people are able to permanently alter people's faces and charge for it armed with their newly acquired certificate. The Bamboo Rooms is currently working hard trying to have this area of the industry regulated as about half our customers are people whose make up has gone wrong and we have to fix it after they have been tattooed by an incompetent artist working from home.

The make up should take less than an hour to do but many semi-permanent artists are taking up to 4 hours to complete the procedure, the only reason for this is to justify the money they charge, this is actually taught to you on the course. We have been on such a course ourselves to see if it was worth bringing semi-permanent makeup into the studio and was shocked by what we were "taught". Everybody today is very busy and time is precious, there is no point in us wasting your time or ours.

If you come into the studio each member of our staff have had their makeup tattooed by Keng, therefore you can see exactly what it looks like by the exact person who will be carrying out the procedure as opposed to another persons work. We also have many photos of our happy customers, which are genuine photos as opposed to photo shopped images which do not show what it will really look like.
