The Bamboo Rooms now offers various courses in tattooing.

Within the tattoo industry most tattooists generally look down on what they refer to as 'Scratchers'. These are people who learn to tattoo from home. Yet at the same time getting an apprenticeship within the industry is a near impossible task.

Unbelievably, there are many old school tattooists who are unable to draw, and can only use transfers. These tattooists will never give an apprenticeship to people for fear of losing their customers. This is because once you know all the basics it is simply a matter of practice as there is very little skill involved in becoming yet another bad tattooist. These tattooists are fast becoming a dying breed as slowly the industry is opening up to people who are artists first and foremost and who are also able to tattoo. Whilst the new breed of tattooists may open their doors to apprentices there are very few spaces and a massive demand, this is why it is nearly impossible to obtain an apprenticeship.

To compete within what is now becoming a highly skilled industry you must be able to draw competently and design for your customers and also be able to mix many shades of grey and colour to give pictures depth whilst allowing them to flow with the skin.

We currently offer two courses, beginner and intermediate for those aged 18 and over. For absolute beginners we offer an intensive six day course designed to give you all the basics to become a safe tattooist. For people a little more experienced we offer longer personalized courses designed with that individual in mind in order to work on their weaknesses and help them to become a competent tattoo artist as opposed to a tattooist.

These course are taught under the direct supervision of Keng, who is recognized as one of the industry's leading artists.
